Perched on the north bank of the Yellow River, Baita Temple (白塔寺) is one of Lanzhou’s most scenic and historic landmarks. Built during the Yuan Dynasty, the temple is named after its striking white pagoda, which stands against the backdrop of rolling hills and the winding river below.
Climbing up to the temple complex is a rewarding experience — along the way, you’ll pass through colorful gates, prayer halls, and peaceful courtyards. At the top, the Baita (White Pagoda) itself offers a perfect photo backdrop, and the viewing platforms give panoramic views of Zhongshan Bridge, the Yellow River, and the city skyline.
Baita Temple is especially beautiful at sunset, when the river glows golden and the city lights start to twinkle. In spring, the hillside is dotted with blossoms, adding even more charm to the scene.
💡 Tips:
• 📍 Located within Baita Mountain Park (白塔山公园) — entry ticket covers the temple and park.
• 👟 Wear comfortable shoes; there are many steps up the hill.
• 🌅 Late afternoon is the best time for photos with warm lighting.
• 🧘 The temple is still active — be respectful of worshippers.
