Sichuan Leshan | The Oriental Buddha Capital and Leshan Giant Buddha, the world's largest seated Buddha radiating compassion

Leshan, Sichuan | The Eastern Buddhist Capital and the Leshan Giant Buddha: The Compassionate Gaze of the World's Largest Sitting Buddha

At the confluence of the Min, Dadu, and Qingyi Rivers, stands the world-renowned Leshan Giant Buddha. As the centerpiece and symbol of the Eastern Buddhist Capital, its towering 71-meter-high stature is hailed as the world's largest stone-carved seated Buddha.

Construction began during the Tang Dynasty and took ninety years to complete. The statue's face bears a solemn and serene expression, its eyes gazing down at the river, as if watching over the passing ships and the people along the shore. Its broad shoulders, ears that reach down to its knees, and feet that could seat a hundred people simultaneously, all demonstrate the ingenuity of ancient craftsmen and the boundless devotion of their faith.
