Lijiang Old Town Itinerary | High-Value Accommodation + Flower Cake Recommendations and Tips
A trip to Lijiang isn't just about taking photos of the cobblestone streets and canals of the Old Town. To truly experience the slow pace of life in the Old Town, choosing convenient and comfortable accommodation is crucial! This time, I personally stayed near Lijiang Old Town, which was incredibly affordable during the off-season. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up early (laughs), allowing for a seamless connection between eating, drinking, and playing, without the hassle of dragging my luggage around aimlessly. Below, I'll share a super practical lazy-person's guide to Lijiang Old Town, helping you easily enjoy the vacation atmosphere!
🎉Highlights at a Glance:
1. Convenient location (close to the Old Town), spacious room, comfortable bed, affordable yet high-quality.
2. The Old Town is open 24/7, so you can go anytime without any hassle.
3. Flower Cake Tip: I personally tried Mu Lao Ye's flower cakes and they're delicious—a must-try for souvenirs and afternoon tea!
Recommended Attraction: Lijiang Old Town
📍Address: Qixing Street, Gucheng District, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province
⏰Opening Hours: Open 24/7, year-round. Perfect for a quick visit or an evening stroll!
🔸 Must-Visit Attractions
Wander through the winding paths, white walls, and gray tiles of the Old Town, and leisurely explore the shops lining the streets. Qixing Street area boasts numerous restaurants and cafes, is close to the main roads, and is safe and convenient for returning to your hotel at night. The Old Town offers different charms from morning till night; it's recommended to have a simple breakfast near the Old Town before leisurely exploring.
🔸 Hotel Recommendations & Accommodation Experience
This time, I stayed at a hotel near the Old Town. The location was not only incredibly close to the main attractions, but also made dragging luggage easy! The rooms were spacious, and the mattresses were high-quality. Booking during the off-season offered excellent value. Sometimes, you can even find discounted rates during the off-season, allowing you to stay in a good location without breaking the bank. Recommended for those who want to save money and prioritize comfort.
🔸 Souvenir Tips: Mu Laoye Flower Cakes
While strolling through the Old Town, I was drawn to Mu Laoye Flower Cakes. I grabbed a bag of freshly baked cakes and immediately took some photos! The outer crust is flaky and the filling is richly fragrant with flowers. Perfect for afternoon tea, or you can buy a few boxes as souvenirs for friends. A small tip: Flower cakes are best enjoyed fresh. If you buy a lot, remember to repackage them at your hotel to prevent them from getting damp.
🔸 Useful Tips
1. Accommodation in Lijiang is excellent during the off-season, with fewer crowds and beautiful scenery for a more chill experience.
2. It's recommended to book hotels near the Old Town, making it easier to move your luggage up and down the hills.
3. The Old Town is beautifully lit up at night; a walk after dinner is highly recommended.
4. When you first arrive in Lijiang, be mindful of the altitude and plan your itinerary with a relaxed pace.
5. Flower cakes are highly recommended as a souvenir; choose and enjoy them on-site for the most authentic experience.
🔸 Food Recommendations
There are many snacks around Qixing Street in the Old Town: rice noodles, savory barbecue, and specialty yogurt. For a slower pace of life, try the local milk coffee on a street corner, paired with flower cakes – perfect for a truly immersive travel experience!
Transportation Guide: A taxi ride from Lijiang Airport to the Old Town takes about half an hour. Simply navigate to Qixing Street in the Old Town area; you'll be right in the bustling shopping district. Some sections of the Old Town are paved with cobblestones, so if you're dragging luggage, it's recommended to use a wheeled suitcase. Women are also advised to wear flat shoes.
