Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Henan Province. It’s one of China’s most famous cultural and historical sites.

🏯 Longmen Grottoes (龙门石窟)

Located about 12 kilometers south of Luoyang City.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

One of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhist art spanning from the Northern Wei to the Tang Dynasty (roughly 5th to 8th centuries).


2. What Are the Longmen Grottoes?

Thousands of Buddhist statues, carvings, and inscriptions carved into limestone cliffs along the Yi River.

Over 2,300 caves and niches with more than 100,000 statues.

The largest Buddha statue stands over 17 meters tall.
