A Day in Luxembourg City: Small Capital, Big Impressions

#westerneurope
Visiting Luxembourg City was a pleasant surprise — a compact capital packed with charm, history, and dramatic landscapes. I started my day exploring the upper town, walking past the Grand Ducal Palace and Notre-Dame Cathedral. The city felt peaceful, yet full of life and elegance.

One of the highlights was walking along the Chemin de la Corniche, often called "the most beautiful balcony of Europe." The views over the lower town of Grund, with its riverside houses and lush greenery, were absolutely breathtaking.

I took the elevator down to the valley and wandered through the quiet streets of Grund, where stone bridges cross the Alzette River and cafés hide in leafy corners. The contrast between the old fortifications and modern city life gave Luxembourg a unique character.

I also visited the Bock Casemates — a maze of underground tunnels carved into the cliffs, offering both a glimpse into the city’s past and great views from the openings.

Though small in size, Luxembourg City left a big impression. It’s clean, scenic, and effortlessly blends history with modern comfort — a perfect destination for a relaxed yet rich day trip. #thingstodo #travel #luxembourg
