Puerta del Sol (Spanish: Puerta del Sol) is the heart of Madrid and the central point of Spain's road network (Kilometer Zero), surrounded by ten streets radiating outward. At the center of the square stands the Bear and Strawberry Tree statue, a playful symbol of Madrid. The ten streets extend radially from here, like the city's veins, connecting various corners. Every New Year's Eve, people gather here to eat twelve grapes in sync with the chimes, wishing for good fortune in the coming year.
Plaza Mayor (Spanish: Plaza Mayor), on the other hand, offers a distinct charm. This rectangular square is surrounded by red buildings, exuding an ancient and solemn atmosphere. Street performers often grace the center of the square, adding a lively touch. The cafes and restaurants around the square are perfect spots for relaxation. Sitting at an outdoor table, sipping coffee, savoring Spanish delicacies, and watching the hustle and bustle of the square, one can truly experience Madrid's leisurely and pleasant rhythm of life.
