Central Spain Trip ~ Madrid (Region)
Madrid Puerta de Atocha Train Station, located in the south of the Spanish capital, is one of the city's most iconic buildings. Dating back to the 19th century, the station handles over 18 million passengers annually.
It has two separate entrances: Puerta de Atocha, which provides access to Renfe's 15 tracks for most of its long-distance, medium-distance, and high-speed trains. The other entrance, located on the basement level, provides access to Renfe's medium-distance and commuter trains.
The Atocha Tropical Botanical Garden features an impressive 4,000 square meter greenhouse housing 260 species of tropical and subtropical plants. This large green space was created to celebrate the arrival of the high-speed train (AVE) at Atocha station. The garden is located on the ground floor and is accessible from the Emperor Carlos V Plaza, Mendes Álvaro Street, and Princess Isabel Avenue.
