My dears👋, today let’s talk about Male, the capital of Maldives, a super special place🎉!
Male is located on Male Island in the Maldives Islands in the Indian Ocean. It covers an area of about 1.96 square kilometers, but has a population of about 248,000, an average of nearly 130,000 people per square kilometer. It also receives more than 1 million tourists every year, so you can imagine how crowded it is😱. Moreover, Male Island is only about 1.2 meters above sea level. It is said that it will be swallowed by the sea by the end of this century at the earliest, so go and see it while it is still there🤩.
Although the small island city of Male is small, it has a lot of charm. Spend a few hours strolling through it and you will be able to appreciate its unique style.
🚗 How to get there
There are two ways to get to Male from the airport:
●🚕Taxi: The fare is 70-80MVR. You can download the local taxi app Avas Ride, which is convenient and fast.
●🚢 Ferry: Only 15MVR, very cost-effective.
🌈 Must-see attractions
●📍China-Malaysia Friendship Bridge: It is 2,000 meters long and connects Male Island with the Airport Island. It is so spectacular that people can’t help but marvel at it! The bridge cleverly combines Chinese bridge elements with Islamic style, making it a great place to take photos📸.
●📍 Aboriginal living area: 40% of Male are indigenous people. The British-style buildings here are colorful, as if you have walked into a vivid painting, full of life🥰.
●📍 Presidential Palace: The colorful building combines Islamic and modern Western styles. It is unique and worth a visit👀.
●📍 Fish Market: The fish caught by fishermen early in the morning are sold here. At 5 or 6 pm, fishermen will throw the processed fish entrails into the sea. At this time, nearby stingrays will come to eat, and you can watch the super shocking stingray storm 🐟.
●📍 The largest mosque in Maldives: with its white walls and golden roof, it is a local landmark. However, you must follow the rules when visiting. Men wear long trousers, women wear long skirts, and you are not allowed to take photos indoors📷.
⚠️ Tips
●👉The overall feeling is that the roads are narrow, there are many people and cars, and the local transportation is mainly motorcycles, so please pay attention to safety when traveling🛵.
●👉There are no beaches on Male Island, so you have to be careful when choosing accommodation🏖️.
●👉Friday is a local holiday, some shops and museums will be closed, remember to plan your trip reasonably📅.
●👉Maldives is a Muslim country. To respect the local culture, it is recommended to wear skirts/pants above the knee + sleeved tops👚.
Darlings, do you want to go to Male like this? Let’s plan now🥳!
