If you think of a small Japanese city, think of Matsuyama.

The first thing I did upon arriving in Matsuyama, my third consecutive visit, was take the tram.
The retro tram, which connects the city's corners, was slow, but its slowness allowed me to enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace. The unfamiliar yet warm scenery of a small Japanese town drifted by through the window, and within that, I truly felt the beginning of my journey.

Likely a central Matsuyama, the shopping arcade stretched out long and the cafes and shops added to the liveliness. The quietness typical of small Japanese towns was mixed with a hint of energy, making even just walking around a pleasant experience.

While walking, I got hungry, so I stumbled upon an Abura Somen restaurant.
A bowl of warm, oily noodles soothed my tired body. The simple yet rich flavor felt like a small reward for my journey.

Dogo Onsen (道後温泉) is known as one of the oldest hot springs in Japan, and the building itself exuded a unique historical atmosphere. As I soaked in the warm water, the fatigue from a long day of walking melted away, and even the sound of the water in the tranquil bath felt like a part of the trip.

Even though it wasn't anything fancy, the simple experiences that came together made my Matsuyama trip special. The reason I keep thinking about it even after returning is probably because of that warm lingering feeling.

By the way, Matsuyama is famous for offering many benefits to Korean travelers. Be sure to get a coupon at the airport. For added peace of mind, check all liquids in your checked luggage when you depart.
