A Miyakojima lover who has been visiting Miyakojima twice a year for five years recommends these gourmet spots perfect for families with children.
① Izakaya Nanraku
🏠Address: 568 Nishizato, Hirara, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture 906-0012
💡Recommended Points: Wide selection of awamori, bonito instead of pork in the food, great value, and friendly staff
⚫︎Located just a short distance from Miyakojima's downtown Hirara. The restaurant offers both table seating and tatami rooms, with awamori bottles lined up along the walls. The food, flavored with bonito broth and free of artificial seasonings, is gentle and not heavy, so you can eat as much as you want. Compared to downtown locations, the prices for both food and drinks are lower. This is a rare izakaya where you can experience the good old days of Miyakojima.
② Maruyoshi Shokudo
🏠Address: 975-1 Gusukube Sunagawa, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture 906-0108
💡Recommended Points: Generous portions, strong garlic flavor, delicious soki (pork ribs)
⚫︎Located on the north side of the island, this island soba restaurant is easily accessible from Shigi Resort and other locations. Long lines can form outside during peak lunch hours, so if you have children and can't stand waiting outside in the heat, we recommend skipping the hotel breakfast and visiting right after opening for brunch. The soba noodles are generously topped with meat, so be sure to come hungry. Siblings around elementary school age will likely share half a bowl, which is plenty. Don't forget to add curry powder to add a touch of flavor at the end.
➂ Kunkuriya Gama (Izakaya, Restaurant)
🏠Address: 12-1 Uenoshinzato, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture 906-0202
💡Recommended Points: New and spacious restaurant, good value for money, goat sashimi, no time limit, takeout available
⚫︎Located on the north side of the island, it's convenient for access from hotels like Shigira Resort. If you're drinking alcohol, a valet service is available, although there may be a short wait. This is the best value for money on the main island! The food is inexpensive yet the portions are generous, and the awamori is poured right into the glass. The restaurant is spacious and there's no time limit, so even with children, you can relax and enjoy yourself without worrying about others.
➃ Kawamitsu Shokudo
🏠 Address: 517-3 Kamiji, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture, 906-0304
💡 Recommended Point: Enjoy creative soba noodles when you're tired of Miyakojima cuisine.
⚫︎ This Miyako soba restaurant adds a creative element. The owner seems to be the only one cooking, so you may have to wait a little while for the noodles to be ready, but the Mijun soba has a strong, dried sardine flavor and is absolutely delicious. There's a parking lot across from the restaurant, but please note that it's limited.
