Red Square is the heart of Moscow, the place where I always begin my exploration of the city. When I arrived early in the morning, I was struck by the combination of grandeur and tranquility. On one side is the Kremlin with its high walls and towers, on the other, the vibrant domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, which seems to come alive in photographs. I recommend coming here before the workday starts, when there are still few people. This way, you can take beautiful panoramic photos of the square and admire the architecture in peace.
Practical tip: wear comfortable shoes, as the square is paved with cobblestones, and you'll want to walk around the entire area, including the Alexander Garden. Nearby are historic shops, such as GUM, where you can have a coffee and warm up in the winter. In the summer, the square often hosts concerts and exhibitions, so check the schedule in advance.
I especially enjoyed watching how the square changes at different times of the day. In the evening, the illumination turns on, and the building facades take on a completely different appearance – the light reflects especially beautifully on the pavement wet after rain. I consider Red Square a must-see if you want to experience the spirit of Moscow and Russia. It's not just a tourist attraction, but also a living historical space where every building tells its own story.
