Nagasaki Glover Garden (グラバー園) is located in Minami Yamate Town, Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It is a tourist attraction that combines history, culture and art. There are many Western-style buildings built by Western businessmen in the park, including the Glover Mansion, the former site of Mitsubishi Second Dock Dormitory, the former site of the British Consulate, etc. It is one of the most complete European-style building complexes in Japan.
The history of Glover Garden can be traced back to the mid-19th century, when Nagasaki was Japan's only open port, attracting many Western merchants to settle here. One of the most famous merchants was Glover, who built his own residence in Nagasaki in 1863 and named it "Glover Garden".
Glover House is the most famous building in the park and is a typical Victorian building. The house has a living room, bedroom, study, etc., and displays Glover’s belongings during his lifetime, allowing visitors to get a glimpse into his life.
In addition to the Glover Mansion, there are many other buildings worth visiting in the park, including the former site of Mitsubishi Second Dock Dormitory and the former site of the British Consulate. The former site of Mitsubishi Second Dock Dormitory was a building built in 1896 and was the dormitory for the crew at that time. The former British Consulate was built in 1876 and was the British Consulate in Nagasaki.
Glover Garden is one of the must-see attractions when visiting Nagasaki. It not only allows tourists to appreciate the beauty of Western architecture, but also allows them to learn about the history and culture of Nagasaki.
