Spectacle Bridge is the first stone arch bridge in Japan and is famous for its reflection that forms the shape of glasses when the weather is good. Spectacle Bridge has been the filming location for many Japanese animations and is also a landmark of Nagasaki.
▶️Transportation
It is a 2-minute walk from Nagasaki Electric Railway "Meganebashi" Station.
The Spectacles Bridge was originally built in 1634 under the guidance of Mozi Ruding, a Chinese monk who traveled to Japan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In 1648, a flood destroyed the Spectacles Bridge, so Hirado Yomu rebuilt it with stone, and it has stood for hundreds of years. However, the Nagasaki flood in 1982 caused serious damage to the Spectacles Bridge again. After the Spectacles Bridge was renovated, it was converted into a pedestrian bridge and became the Spectacles Bridge we see today.
Another famous photo spot here is the heart-shaped stone hidden in the stone wall. Many people who come to Spectacles Bridge will go down the bridge and look for it. It’s actually not that hard to find, and it’s easier to find it if you look from the other side.
