Kasuga Shrine in Osu, Naka-ku, Nagoya is a historic shrine that was founded in 948 by the Fujiwara clan when they invited a branch of the spirit from Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara.
When Tokugawa Ieyasu built Nagoya Castle, the shrine was moved to its current location and revered as the guardian deity of the castle town!
In the precincts, there is a "Renriboku" tree, which is a pair of trees connected in the middle, and is considered a symbol of matchmaking.
It is also distinctive that a deer statue is enshrined instead of a lion dog.
It is within walking distance of Osu Shopping Street, making it a convenient place to stop by between shopping and sightseeing. The vermilion shrine building is beautiful and you can worship in a quiet atmosphere.
Kasuga Shrine has a historical background and unique attractions, so be sure to visit it when you visit the Osu area.
