I visited "Naminoue Shrine" on my trip to Okinawa.
"Naminoue Shrine" is one of the "Eight Ryukyu Shrines", the guardian shrines of the Ryukyu Kings, located in Naha City. On both sides of the shrine of "Naminoue Shrine", there are Shisa statues instead of lion dogs. The male Shisa has an open mouth and invites good fortune, while the female Shisa has a closed mouth and is said to not let good fortune escape and protect from disasters.
It is a power spot for the god of Okinawa's general guardian deity, such as protection of the nation, matchmaking, safe childbirth, safe travel, long life, and in recent years, protection from misfortune and road safety. The shrine is also built in a typical Okinawan style and is very impressive.
"Naminoue Shrine" is a shrine that can be reached in about 5 minutes by car from Kokusai Street in Naha City, but if you are confident in your leg strength, you can also walk there. It seems to be popular with locals, and on the day we visited it was bustling with people celebrating Shichi-Go-San. There is also a beach near the shrine, so you can enjoy the ocean atmosphere.
This is a recommended spot for your trip to Okinawa!
