📍Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum Okimyu
A complex cultural facility that combines Okinawa's largest museum and art museum in Omoromachi, Naha City.
In addition to exhibits focusing on Okinawa's nature, culture, history, and art, there are also art related to Okinawa.
The Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum was established in Omoromachi in 2007.
Until then, the museum was based in Shuri, but due to aging, it was moved to its current location.
The reason why it looks like an old castle is because the design was based on the stone walls of castles from the Ryukyu period.
The following year, in 2008, it won the Good Design Award, and it is worth seeing as an architectural work.
Although it has such a heavy exterior, the architecture has been designed to reduce the burden of heat from the sun. This is unique to Okinawa, the island of perpetual summer.
