If you've never been to Nara. The only thing you are likely to know about it are the amusing deer that bow. Nara used to be the ancient capital of Japan. In present time it is full of historic temples and shrines.
And as with most visitors to Nara. Even for me a major draw was the fact that those temples and shrines are home to friendly deer who love to be fed rice crackers by tourists. I used my JR pass and I arrived at JR Nara station, after an hour-long train ride from Kyoto. The plan for the day included visiting Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Grand Shrine’s forest.
Also, stopped by the tourist information booth to pick up a map of Nara and ended up getting not only a map, but a suggested route for exploring Nara. The route was probably the same route that is recommended to every tourist. Having said so it was a good one, and the next couple of hours were spent exploring the best of Nara. #japantrip #nara #flowerlover
