Nara | The Historic Former Daijo-in Garden, a Perfect Spot to Relax.

✓ The Historic Former Daijo-in Garden

The first stop is near Ara Pond, where I discovered a lush garden hidden next to the historic Nara Hotel. Initially, I thought it was the hotel's garden, but it turned out to be the former Daijo-in Garden. Without excessive artificial landscaping, the garden features expansive greenery and a pond, adorned with a rainbow bridge and ancient pines. Looking out through the circular window, the serene view is like a picturesque painting. If you're looking for a place to unwind, this is the spot.

Daijo-in was once a prestigious temple affiliated with Kofuku-ji. However, it was abolished during the Meiji government's fervent movement to separate Shinto and Buddhism and eliminate Buddhist practices. The remaining garden was restored and maintained after the war and has been designated as a National Scenic Beauty.
