A must-see for cat lovers! Located in New Taipei City, Houtong Village is easily accessible from Taipei, but it's like stepping into a cat kingdom. This former coal mining village is now home to hundreds of cats.
Highlights: The cats are incredibly friendly! They roam freely throughout the village, on the stairs, along the sidewalks, and in the small shops. Some are so affectionate, you'll have to give in.
Recommendation: Bring your camera! There are plenty of photo opportunities! There are plenty of cat-themed souvenir shops, and the natural scenery of the mountains and rivers is stunning. Visit early in the morning or evening when the weather is not too hot, as the cats are especially active!
