Cliffside Sanctuary Legend: Udo Shrine

Udo Shrine is truly an incredible place and currently my favorite spot in Miyazaki. The entire shrine feels like a miracle carved by nature itself, nestled between steep cliffs and facing the endless blue ocean. Its grandeur and spiritual aura captivate you the moment you step in, completely capturing your heart.

Walking along the ridge trail is an adventure in itself. I was lucky enough to encounter a whole group of wild macaques, a family playing and foraging in the mountains, making the journey feel like stepping into a hidden magical world.

Within the shrine area, there are several cozy little cafes, charming snack shops, and souvenir stores worth exploring. You can enjoy the stunning scenery while leisurely strolling around, soaking in the serene and sacred atmosphere.

As for transportation, I took a Miyazaki Kotsu bus from Aoshima to Udo Shrine, which cost 1,090 yen one way. To my surprise, you can pay directly with Apple Pay on the bus, which is very convenient. Of course, driving yourself is also a great option, as there’s parking available at the shrine entrance. The entire journey along the Nichinan coastline is breathtaking, with winding ocean views and surprises at every turn. Udo Shrine is definitely a must-visit destination in Miyazaki.
