Miyazaki Two-Day Trip: Navigating Changing Weather & Coastal Gems! ☀️🌧️

#summervacay
My two-day trip to Miyazaki proved that the weather can be quite unpredictable, but it didn't stop me from exploring some truly unique spots!

Udo Shrine: A Cliffside Sanctuary (and My Lucky Shot!)

After leaving Sunmesse Nichinan at 3:10 PM, I arrived at Udo Shrine at 3:22 PM. Even though it was just one bus stop away, the journey covered over 3 kilometers of highway, making walking impractical. So, I patiently waited for the bus – in Miyazaki, bus services aren't frequent, so meticulous time planning is essential if you want to visit multiple attractions!

Udo Shrine is spectacularly built right into a cliff by the sea, with its main hall hidden within a natural cave. They really chose an incredible location! There's a unique activity here: a small hollow on a rock in the sea below the shrine. You can buy "Untama" (lucky balls) – 5 for 200 yen – and try to throw them into the hollow for good luck. I tried, and my first four attempts failed. I had almost given up on the last one, but to my surprise, it landed right in the hole! Guess I'm still a woman favored by the gods after all!

I found about an hour was enough time to explore Udo Shrine. However, there are quite a few stairs to navigate, so if your stamina isn't great, you might want to allocate a bit more time.

At the entrance to the shrine, there's a dragon standee. When I first arrived, it was sunny, so I just thought it was a decoration. Little did I know, the weather was about to change dramatically!
