Sumiyoshi Shrine
Sumiyoshi Shrine is enshrined within the grounds of Hakusan Shrine at 1 Ichibanhoridori-cho, Chuo-ku, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. It is a 12-minute walk from Hakusan Station and a 30-minute walk from Niigata Station.
The shrine enshrines Sumiyoshi Okami, the protector of maritime affairs and business prosperity in Niigata, and a mikoshi (portable shrine). This mikoshi is used in the Sumiyoshi procession at the Niigata Festival, and I was able to see the shining mikoshi up close!
