Address:
Chugushi, Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan 📍 (Near Chuzenji Onsen bus stop, about 5-10 minute walk from Kegon Falls)
Atmosphere/Location:
Lake Chuzenji is located in the heart of Oku-Nikko, part of Nikko National Park, and is often referred to as the "Lake Front Park" due to its lakeside area that is perfect for relaxing and walking. 🏝️ The atmosphere is peaceful and full of natural beauty, surrounded by mountains such as Mount Nantai and lush forests. 🌲 The lake itself has clear blue water that reflects the view of the mountains and sky. 🌅 Especially in autumn (October-November), when the leaves turn red and orange, creating a beautiful scenery like a painting. 🍁 There are promenades along the shore and benches to sit and relax on. 🧺 There are also small shops and restaurants serving local food such as grilled fish and yuba (tofu skin). 🐟 However, during peak seasons such as autumn, it can be crowded with tourists. And some places may not have many facilities 🙈
Highlights:
- Lake view and Mount Nantai: Lake Chuzenji is located at an altitude of 1,269 meters, so it has cool air and beautiful scenery, especially the view of Mount Nantai reflected on the water surface 🏔️ It is a must-take photo spot 📸 [Ref: web:0]
- Near Kegon Falls: It is only a 5-10 minute walk from the lake to Kegon Falls, which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan. 🏞️ You can pay 570 yen to take the elevator down to see the waterfall from below for a bigger view [Ref: web:0]
- Seasonal activities: In summer, there are rowboats and tour boats for rent to cruise the lake 🚤 In winter (February), there is a snowshoe tour organized by the Nikko Natural Science Museum nearby ❄️ [Ref: web:0]
- Futarasan Shrine: Chuzenji Shrine, located on the shores of the lake, is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is sacred and has a peaceful feel. Suitable for those who love Japanese culture 🙏 [Ref: web:0]
