If you want to come to Nikko to find a real hot spring ryokan where you can wash your mind and feel the traditional Japanese tradition, I sincerely recommend Yusikawa Onsen Honka Bunku. This inn is really a must-visit in a lifetime, not an exaggeration, the most memorable of the trip is its historical atmosphere and cultural preservation done well, and the stove grill dinner, full of experience, the hall has a suspension bridge connected to the dining place, step by step, very ceremonial.
The hotel's location and transportation facilities
Yusikawa Onsen Benjia Banku is located at 749 Yunishikawa, Nikko City, next to the hotel surrounded by mountains and rivers, located by the river, with four distinct seasons, each time you come with a different color. Nearby Transportation It is recommended to take a bus or drive from Tobu Nikko Station, which is about 60 minutes away, suitable for those who really want to get away from the city and enjoy a slow life.
Facilities and Environment
The big thing here is its hot spring facilities. The nights are especially quiet, and bathing under the starlight is super healing. The inn architecture is over three hundred years old, whether it is the sliding doors, folk art decorations, and wooden floors, every detail is Showa-era. You’re looking for photo spots — the suspension bridge, the main hall entrance, and the window edge of a Japanese-style room are perfect.
Service highlights and cultural atmosphere
Most of the inn employees are senior and thick, gentle in speech, attentive to their movements, and will take the initiative to help no matter what is needed. They attach great importance to preserving Japanese traditions, and their hospitality is unbeatable. Some staff will take the initiative to share with you the history of the inn or the story of the Yukawa area, and will teach you how to properly enjoy the hot springs, Japanese cuisine. The venue is quiet and the stay atmosphere is calm, suitable for travelers who want to slow down and enjoy the world.
Dining experience
For dinner I tried the Fudon-yaki, which slows grilled fresh fish meat, beef, minced chicken and other different ingredients over a charcoal fire, with ingredients coming from near Yukawa, each with a nice natural flavor. There are also exquisite seasonal kaiseki cuisine, excellent taste and presentation, breakfast is pure Japanese, with seasonal ingredients, even the miso soup is particularly fresh. The dining environment is connected by a suspension bridge, and every time I walk by, I look forward to my next meal.
Trip tips
It is recommended that you can check in at any time if you encounter a suspension bridge during your stay, and do not miss the hotel’s yukata and room views. The autumn leaf season is especially beautiful, so it is recommended to book early. Remember to make a reservation for Fudon-yaki for dinner, which is different from the usual Japanese restaurants. The itinerary can be arranged for a combined tour of Nikko city and Yusishikawa, and if driving is more convenient, there are several waterfalls and shrines in the surrounding area that you can visit.
Booking Tips
This type of hot spring inn is very popular during the peak season, so you need to book in advance if you want a room with a nice view. Some room types can look directly at the river, and bathing feels invincible. Don't worry if you don't know Japanese, the staff is very enthusiastic to help you solve the problem, a male staff who speaks English will introduce you to the hotel facilities as soon as you arrive. Pay attention to hot spring bathing etiquette and respect the local culture.
