Ningbo : mid sized historic but modern city

Ningbo is in Zhejiang province and is near Shanghai and Hangzhou. Although it's near these big cities, Ningbo is a mid sized city with plenty to see.
The city can be seen to be divided between the older part and the newly developed part. The two are quite far apart and are worlds away. The newer part of the city is mostly the business district; it is a smartly planned area with wide, tree lined boulevards. It's quite nice to walk around and very interesting to see the progress of the city. There's also a nicely landscaped park where the Museum of Ningbo is located. This building is a very interesting architectural piece of art that uses different tiles to form the wall. Definitely worth a visit.
Moving to the older part of the city, Jiangbei is the historic center of the city. This area dates back to its older port days and is a lovely collection of Western style buildings along the riverside. It's a charming part of the city to stroll around and at night time, you can enjoy the lights along the river. The area, recently, has become a trendy area with many restaurants and bars that are housed within its historic streets. It's definitely a nice place to chill and grab a drink in a historic setting.
Overall, Ningbo is a fun place to visit; it isn't a huge city perse and yet you'll still find something to do. It's a relaxing and historic, yet modern city!
