There are two Art Museums in Oita City, one on the mountain and one near the Nikko Hotel. The Oita Prefectural Art Museum OPAM opened in April 2015 and is a public art museum that mainly exhibits works by local artists. OPAM is not only a treasure house of creativity and a cultural gathering place. The museum is known for its striking museum building designed by Japanese Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Shigeru Ban. Its unique architectural style combines modern and natural elements, making it a local cultural landmark. It fosters appreciation for a variety of art from Oita and around the world, and this free exhibition is the work of art from elementary, middle and high school students in Oita. The quality is surprisingly high.
The permanent exhibits in the hall are interactive and touchable, and are divided into an "open area" and an "exhibition area". Visitors can enter and exit the "open area" freely for free. This is a free space that belongs to everyone. For example, you can play and take pictures in the balloon eggs, fake swimming pool, sand pool, etc. Every little corner is full of artistic atmosphere and is very good for taking pictures.
