Opened in the spring of 2015, the Oita Prefectural Art Museum (OPAM) was designed as a “museum open to the city.” Its modern, airy architecture creates a seamless connection between art and daily life.
Inside, the spacious two-story atrium welcomes visitors with natural light — a public area freely accessible without an admission fee. The 1st floor museum shop features beautifully curated art goods and local crafts, while the 2nd floor café offers a relaxing place to take a break surrounded by creative energy.
Another unique feature is the pedestrian connection on the 2nd floor between OPAM and Oasis Hiroba 21, which houses the Oasis Tower Hotel and the Grand Theater (Granshita). This thoughtful urban design makes OPAM an integrated part of Oita’s cultural district.
Whether you’re an art lover or just wandering through the city, OPAM invites everyone to step in — to explore, relax, and experience the blend of art, architecture, and community.
