A temple theme park! A journey of art and prayer at Kosanji Temple

#AbsolutelyFreeTrip

Kōsanji Temple, located on Ikuchijima Island in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a magnificent temple built by Showa-era businessman Kosanji Kozo as the family temple for his mother. Its rows of halls and pagodas, modeled after famous architectural masterpieces from around Japan, such as Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Byodoin Temple's Phoenix Hall, are awe-inspiring, like a temple theme park. ✨
When you actually visit, you'll find the temple grounds to be surprisingly spacious, with 15 buildings designated as national tangible cultural properties. Furthermore, the underground cavern "Senbutsu-dō Jigokukyo" offers a immersive Buddhist experience, while the contemporary art garden "Miraishin no Oka" offers a breathtaking view of pure white marble, reminiscent of Santorini, Greece. 🌊🕊️
At the Kongōkan Museum, you can view priceless cultural assets, including a Buddhist statue by Kaikei. We enjoyed a luxurious time blending history and art.

Access is via Onomichi Port, about a 3-minute walk from JR Onomichi Station, followed by a 40-minute boat ride and a 10-minute walk from Setoda Port. By car, it's about 13 minutes from Ikuchijima Kita IC on the Shimanami Kaido. Parking is available (approximately 40 spaces). [1]
Why not take a spiritually enriching trip to Kosanji Temple, where art and prayer coexist?
