Osaka|Japan's Longest Shopping Street, Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street, Full of Warm Human Atmosphere

In the past, when visiting Osaka, I always loved staying in Namba or Umeda, until I discovered Japan's longest shopping street - Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street. When choosing a hotel, I started looking near the shopping street. Whether it's dinner and drinks at night or buying cosmetics and shopping, you can find everything on this shopping street.

This shopping street spans three subway stations: Minami-Morimachi, Ogimachi, and Tenjinbashi-suji Rokuchome. Its history dates back to the Edo period when the area around Tenmangu Shrine, dedicated to the god of learning, developed into a market. Farmers from various regions brought their crops to sell, gradually forming a shopping street. Since Sugawara no Michizane is revered as Tenjin, this prosperous commercial road was named Tenjinbashi-suji.

From 1-chome to 7-chome, it stretches 2.6 kilometers. Even if you walk quickly, it takes about 40 minutes. If you stroll slowly and spend a few evenings dining and treasure hunting in the shopping street, you will never be bored. Especially in the alleys next to Ten-go (Tenjinbashi-suji 5-chome), there is a strong Showa-era atmosphere, with izakayas and standing bars everywhere. When night falls, this area becomes incredibly lively. Plus, nearby is the ultra-low-price local supermarket "Tamade Supermarket," where you can truly feel the warmth of everyday life.

Finally, let me introduce Osaka's strongest subway line - the Sakaisuji Line. This line operates jointly with Hankyu Railway and connects all the way to Kyoto's Tawaramachi. Starting from Tengachaya, every station offers transfers to other lines, making it the line with the most transfer stations in all of Osaka. Paired with the Enjoy ECO card, you can deeply explore Osaka; or combine the subway and private railways with the Kansai Rail Pass to fully enjoy Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, and Wakayama all at once.

📍Address: Tenjinbashi, Kita Ward, Osaka, 530-0041 Japan
🚗 To visit 1-3 chome, take the subway to Minami-Morimachi Station; for 4-5 chome, get off at Ogimachi Station; for 6 chome, get off at Tenjinbashi-suji Rokuchome.
