Guide to Experiencing a Stay at Waldorf Astoria Osaka

The new hotel Waldorf Astoria Osaka’s Peacock Alley café, located on the 29th floor, offers a refreshing open view overlooking Umekita Park. We were grateful to be seated at a central window seat.
Looking at the menu, we heard about the discounted prices, so we ordered an additional glass of champagne. The afternoon tea offers two types of champagne from the Louis Vuitton Hennessy group at about 20% off the regular price as an optional add-on.
The vintage Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame are the champagne options for the afternoon tea. We chose the more affordable Moët & Chandon. For tea, Peacock’s original brand tea and Smith Tea loose leaf are available. Coffee is also made from their original brand beans.
The friendly server explained everything well, making for a comfortable start. The champagne was served from a magnum bottle. From my wine knowledge, a magnum is a 1500ml bottle, double the size of a standard 750ml bottle.
It is said that aging in a larger bottle produces a smoother and deeper flavor. The price is also higher, with one magnum costing 1.5 times more than two 750ml bottles, even though the volume is the same. I once wondered why three 500ml colas cost more than 1.5 liters.
The afternoon tea set includes three types of savory items, two types of scones, and seven types of sweets. The three-tier tray holds only the sweets, which are served last, while the three savory items are plated individually first.
The scone plate is also added. The savory sandwiches are finger-sized and come in four varieties, adding depth. The ingredients include generous amounts of caviar, foie gras, and truffles—the three great delicacies of the world.
The lobster mini burger, made from a whole lobster, is lavishly topped with caviar, showcasing its grandeur. The four sandwiches made with rare ingredients from various parts of Japan each have a perfect narrative and story, making them fascinating.
The server explained the origin of the ingredients, how to eat them, and the order, so all we had to do was sit back, open our mouths, and enjoy the gourmet delight. The two types of scones were perfect. Handmade strawberry jam and clotted cream made it the best in Osaka.
They generously gave extra clotted cream, allowing us to lavishly spread it, creating a fantastic and joyful serenade in our mouths. Not stopping there, the seven types of sweets each left a strong impression.
From the signature Red Velvet Cheesecake of Waldorf Peacock Alley to eclairs, canelé-shaped mousse cakes, tarts, opera cakes, mango mousse, and yellow hidden strawberries, the full lineup was enjoyed as a clean-up trio without any breaks.
The staff were not very visible in their movements and less focused on care, so drink orders were delayed, and it took about 5 to 10 minutes to receive the ordered drinks, probably because it’s only the third week since opening. Despite that, we were very satisfied. Thank you.
