[Osaka] Grill Yamatake Kamiroku Branch | Butcher's Croquettes 🤎

During my last trip to Osaka, I discovered a hidden gem specializing in grilled beef tongue. Located in Sakaisuji Honmachi, this restaurant is situated between Osaka Castle and Shinsaibashi. They use chilled (not frozen) beef tongue, and also offer a variety of wagyu, offal, and Korean-style dishes. The restaurant is tucked away in the basement, making it quite discreet and still relatively unknown to tourists.
The must-order dish here is the "Beef Tongue 7-Variety Platter" (牛たん七種盛り). Even though it’s all beef tongue, different parts like the tip, center, and root have varying fat content and textures. Whether you eat it plain, with scallions, or simply dipped in salt, it’s highly recommended. The meat is tender yet incredibly elastic. Personally, I prefer the crunchy "Zuritan" (tongue tip), and I strongly suggest starting with the platter to compare the different cuts.
This restaurant leans towards a Korean-style BBQ, so wrapping the meat in vegetables is also a great option. We also ordered the Lean Meat 3-Variety Platter (diaphragm, tenderloin, and thinly sliced beef), "Minotte-sa" (thick-cut beef stomach), beef tartare, bamboo basket pork belly, and the seafood tofu soup, which was packed with ingredients and absolutely delicious! Ordering a full table of food might be a bit much, but budgeting around 6,000–8,000 yen per person should be sufficient. If you’re in a group, you can try more dishes.
Other highlights:
✅ Options for those who don’t eat beef, including chicken, pork, and various cooked dishes
✅ Tablet ordering system (with Chinese language available)
✅ Online reservations available, with both table seating and private rooms
✅ No lingering BBQ smell on your clothes after dining (great ventilation system)
