The regret of Mount Fuji and the unique beauty of Oshino Hakkai 🌊

I visited the Oshino Hakkai Pond in mid-May and was truly captivated by its breathtaking scenery. Eight crystal-clear ponds, like the eyes of the earth, reveal the bottom, and koi swim leisurely within. Surrounding them are quaint Japanese cottages and rotating waterwheels. Surrounded by lush greenery, birdsong, and the gentle breeze, the idyllic atmosphere permeates every corner, making a stroll through the area truly soothing.

Unfortunately, the weather was foggy that day, and I was unable to see the full extent of Mount Fuji, only a hazy outline. I felt a little disappointed—after all, I missed the iconic image of the snow-capped mountain reflected in the ponds.

But it was also because of this that I was able to calmly appreciate the unique character of the Hakkai Pond. The exquisite Okama Pond, the tranquil bottomless pond, and the serene Mirror Pond all have their own unique charms. Perhaps this is what travel is all about: amidst disappointments come unexpected rewards. Perhaps next time I come, I'll be able to fulfill my promise to see Mount Fuji.
