🇯🇵 Take a leisurely stroll in the wonderland of springs – Oshino Hakkai

Oshino Hakkai is a collection of eight ponds of varying sizes formed in depressions by underground springs from Mount Fuji. These ponds include Deguchi Pond, Okama Pond, Ditetsu Pond, Choshi Pond, Wakui Pond, Turbid Pond, Kagami Pond, and Shoiri Pond. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

📍 Shinobikusa, Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture
🚎 From Fujiyoshida Station, transfer to the Fujikyu Bus bound for Uchino for approximately 20 minutes. Alternatively, take the Kawaguchiko Line/Fuji Gakkou Line bus from Kawaguchiko Station for approximately 20 minutes. Get off at the Oshino Hakkai Iriguchi stop and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the destination.

Although Oshino Hakkai is called a "sea," it's actually just eight small ponds scattered throughout Oshino Village, some of which are on private land. Therefore, you'll usually only see six of the eight ponds: Wakui Pond, Turbido Pond, Kagami Pond, Shobu Pond, Choshi Pond, and Okama Pond, as well as the Naka Pond, which was artificially excavated by the hotel.

Although artificially excavated, the Nakaike Pond is the most eye-catching pond in the scenic area. Larger and deeper than the adjacent Wakaike and Turbidike Ponds, it also houses numerous koi carp, making it a popular spot for visitors. Many mistake the Nakaike Pond for one of the Oshino Hakkai ponds.

Another attraction of the Oshino Hakkai ponds is their association with Mount Fuji. With the changing seasons, Mount Fuji takes on a different look, and the reflections on the waters of the Oshino Hakkai ponds are truly unforgettable. The view of Mount Fuji from the Oshino Hakkai ponds is unique compared to other views, earning it the nickname "Oshino Fuji."

You can also visit Ikemotoso, where you can buy food and specialties made with Mount Fuji's spring water. Ikemotoso also boasts two locations where Mount Fuji spring water gushes forth, offering free drinking to visitors, which is said to extend longevity.
