⛩️Sumiyoshi Shrine in Otaru with its Red Torii

Japan Travel Diary 53. Otaru

📍Sumiyoshi Shrine

Inside Otaru City lies the small, yet quiet and charming Sumiyoshi Shrine.

A small ⛩️torii stands halfway up the stairs, making it a great hidden spot to admire.

The shrine itself isn't large, so there's not much to see, but if you climb to the top of the stairs, you'll be rewarded with a 🌊 view of the Otaru ocean.

I visited on a snowy day, which was a bit disappointing, but it's a truly beautiful place on a clear day✨.

❄️If you visit in winter, the stairs can be quite slippery, so be careful not to fall!

🚎How to get to Otaru Sumiyoshi Shrine from Otaru Station

From Otaru Ekimae Station, take the 13 Asarigawa Onsen Line bus and get off at Sumiyoshi Jinja-mae Station (approximately 10 minutes).

⏰Travel Time for Otaru Sumiyoshi Shrine

‼️Things to Note When Visiting Otaru Sumiyoshi Shrine
