Explored Phnom Penh 🇰🇭 on a city tour and caught some epic vibes right in front of the Royal Palace square at night, the scene there is way cooler than you’d expect! Imagine locals gathering amid palatial Western-style architecture, towering modern buildings, and leafy trees, all glowing under street lights as dusk settles in.
If you’re in Phnom Penh, don’t miss these must-see city spots:
- The Royal Palace (Preah Sothearos Blvd, open daily 8am–5pm): Go during late afternoon for sunlit shots, but stick around after dark for a totally different crowd energy and architectural mood. It’s even better after the rains, when the palace lights reflect off the glistening cobblestones — super photogenic!
- Street Walks by Sisowath Quay: Perfect for people-watching, sunset river views, and pop-up food stalls. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch community gatherings just like those in my night photo.
- Wat Ounalom (Street 172, open 6am–6pm): A quiet break from the main drag with gorgeous, ornate structures.
- Independence Monument (Norodom Blvd, open 24/7): Snap night photos when the lights come on — classic vibes.
Pro tip: Weather changes FAST, so bring a light rain jacket or umbrella. Even when cloudy and rainy, the city pulses with life. The evening is your golden hour for street photos and sunsets — the architecture looks extra dramatic!
Getting Around: Tuk-tuks are hassle-free and super cheap for short hops. Negotiate a price before hopping in.
Eat/Drink: Try local barbecue skewers or Cambodian iced coffee sold by street vendors around the square after 6pm — great budget bites while you soak up the scene.
Don’t forget cash (Cambodian Riel or small USD bills) for street eats and tuk-tuks. June–October can be rainy, but the night city colors pop even more.
