Wat Mahathat is a royal temple located near Wat Ratchaburana in the Ayutthaya Historical Park.
It is located at the foot of Saphan Pa Than, east of Wat Phra Si Sanphet. Its most notable feature is the hundred-year-old Buddha head in tree roots.
There is very little parking space inside the temple. You have to park on the opposite side and walk a bit. The entrance fee for Thais is 10 baht.
It is one of the temples in the Ayutthaya Historical Park and is the most important religious center in Ayutthaya.
Because in addition to being the place where the central Buddha relic is enshrined, it is also the residence of the Supreme Patriarch of the Khamwasi sect.
This temple is therefore under construction and maintained all the time.
Location: Wat Mahathat, Naresuan Road, Tha Wasukri Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province 13000
