Wat Phra Ram, Ayutthaya Province

It is a large and spacious temple with a large prang that can be seen clearly from afar. The prang is made of bricks and cement. It is an early Ayutthaya architecture that is popular for prangs because it was influenced by the ancient Khmer style from the city of Lavo (Lopburi).

It is located outside the palace to the east, opposite the Phra Mongkhon Bophit temple. King Ramesuan built it on the site where the body of King Ramathibodi I (King U Thong) was cremated, his father. There is a large pond in front of the temple. When Ayutthaya was established, soil from the pond was probably dug up to fill the ground of the palace and temple. The excavated area became a large pond. The pond was named in the Palace Law as “Bueng Chi Khan”. Later, the name was changed to “Bueng Phra Ram”. It is now “Bueng Phra Ram Public Park”, which is used as a place for relaxation for the people of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province and for tourists who come to visit.
