It is assumed that it was built during the reign of King Naresuan the Great when he was victorious in the Elephant Battle to celebrate his victory over the Maha Uparaja of Burma. This is the origin of the name "Wat Yai Chai Mongkol". Tourists can go up to see the beauty on top of the chedi. In the evening, the view is very beautiful. You can see Ayutthaya in the evening.
