Japanese Village, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

For history buffs, we recommend the Japanese Village, located in Ko Rian Subdistrict, which showcases the history of Japanese arrivals in the Kingdom of Siam.

In the late 16th century, the Japanese government permitted Japanese to sail to trade with foreigners. Some of these traders traveled to Ayutthaya. The King of Thailand granted permission for them to settle in Ayutthaya, on the outskirts of the island, just like other nations. Since then, more Japanese have settled in Ayutthaya, with their own chiefs. The Japanese chief at the time was Nakamasa Yamada, a powerful figure favored by King Songtham. He was subsequently appointed Okya Senaphimuk, and later became the governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat until his death. The Thai-Japanese Association has now erected a replica of Nakamasa Yamada and recorded the history of the Japanese Village during the Ayutthaya period. The building showcases Ayutthaya's relations with foreign countries, divided into nine sections. The exhibition includes a video room presenting an overview of Ayutthaya, a navigational map of the route to Ayutthaya, and aerial photographs illustrating the prosperity of Ayutthaya from past to present. Displays and replicas of products used in import and export trade during that era, foreign communities and Japanese communities during the Ayutthaya period, an e-book room, and replicas of ancient ships with evidence of trade during the Ayutthaya period. Open for viewing Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday-Sunday and public holidays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is 50 baht per person. There is also a shop selling Oishi snacks, drinks, and desserts. #GetDiscountsNotRelyingOnLuck #Ayutthaya
