This temple, originally named "Wat Pa Kaew," was built during the reign of King U Thong (around 1900 CE). It became most significant during the reign of King Naresuan the Great. After his victory in the elephant duel over the Burmese Crown Prince, he commissioned the construction of a large chedi to commemorate this great victory. The temple was renamed "Wat Yai Chai Mongkol."
Beliefs/Prayers: This temple is renowned for its worship, which seeks to enhance one's power and authority, and for blessings for victory over obstacles and enemies.
