Wat Ratchaburana

Wat Ratchaburana is one of the most important historical sites and temples in the Ayutthaya Historical Park. Located at the foot of Pa Than Bridge, opposite Wat Mahathat, it is often included in the itinerary.

Legend of its construction and the struggle for the throne
Temple of Love (of Chao Sam Phraya): Wat Ratchaburana was built in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II (Chao Sam Phraya) to honor his two elder brothers, who died in a battle for the throne on elephants. It is a temple with a tragic and significant origin in early Ayutthaya history.

The main prang of Wat Ratchaburana is a large and magnificent early Ayutthaya architectural structure. Inside, it once housed numerous priceless treasures.
