Another ancient site located within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, this is considered the largest and oldest temple in Ayutthaya. Located adjacent to Wat Mahathat to the north, it is a royal temple and a treasure trove of Ayutthaya-era treasures with a long history.
The interior features numerous structures, including a main prang surrounded by a covered gallery, a vihara (ordination hall) on the east front, and an ordination hall (ubosot) at the rear on the west. The main prang is an early Ayutthaya style, which followed the Khmer architectural style of the main prang, decorated with stucco figures of garudas, giants, angels, and nagas.
The front entrance features a beautiful archway, a unique feature of the temple, and is a popular photo spot for tourists. The surrounding area is lined with trees, providing a shady atmosphere. It is recommended to visit in the morning or evening to avoid the heat. If the sun is too strong, umbrellas are available at the entrance. Admission is 10 baht for Thais and 50 baht for foreigners.
