Wat Mahayongkhon, Ayutthaya

If you're visiting Ayutthaya, there's another recommended tourist attraction outside the city island: Wat Mahayong.

This temple, if you're coming from the Chedi Nak Leng roundabout, is located just past the Ayothaya Floating Market.

This temple was built during the early Ayutthaya period by Chao Sam Phraya.

The temple is divided into two areas:

The ancient site, where tourists can visit and take photos, features an ancient vihara, a stupa, and a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture.

The second area is a forest temple open to the public for meditation and sightseeing. This section houses a large reclining Buddha image housed in a replica cave. There's also a replica of Phra Thinang Sanphet Prasat, modeled after the ancient royal palace from the Ayutthaya period.

To get there, take a motorbike taxi from Ayutthaya Railway Station for 40 baht.
