Ancient Buddha statue, Phra Sri Sanphet Temple

Among the hundreds of thousands of temples throughout Ayutthaya, one of the most important temples in ancient times was Wat Phra Si Sanphet. It was built as a private temple for the king, located in the royal palace without monks staying there. It was used for many important royal ceremonies, including the water pouring ceremony twice a year. It was the place where the royal remains of almost every Ayutthaya king were kept.
