🌹 The Prince's Mansion

🌻Mae Chao Bualai, or Bualai Thepwong, was the second wife of Chao Piriya Thepwong, the last ruler of Phrae, and the grandmother of "Ya Khop," the later famous novelist. Although her role in the story is largely unknown, Mae Chao Bualai was renowned for her skill in embroidery, particularly in the use of beetle wings and lace. She embroider curtains, cushions, and other items for King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), earning her immense favor. His majesty was so much admired that he bestowed upon her a room named "Bualai" in honor of her mastery of embroidery.

🌺Mae Chao Bualai's life was marked by the historic "Ngio Rebellion of Phrae" in 1902. After the rebellion, she was sent to house arrest at Woradit Palace under the care of His Royal Highness Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, Minister of the Interior. This marked the end of her role as a noble lady at the residence of the ruler of Phrae. Today, the story and ancient embroidery works of Mae Chao Bualai are displayed on the second floor of the Prince of Phrae's Mansion (which may be confused with the Prince's Mansion, which is often referred to as the Prince of Phrae's Mansion). This serves as a reminder and tribute to her as an important figure in Phrae's history and arts and crafts.
