Prambanan temple

#indonesiatrip We bought our ticket for Prambanan temple prior at Borobudur as they offered a special deal of two locations for one price at the ticket counter- unfortunately the Borobudur tickets for walking amongst the stones were sold out so this offer to walk only outside the stone area and a entry to Prambanan was the best alternative option. FYI buy your Borobudur tickets online a week in advance- this is a new process implemented two months ago! With the ticket purchased from Borobudur as ‘foreigners’ we enter through a different entrance where it is air conditioned, with fresh clean toilets and we get a free bottle of water. There is also the option to hire a professional guide (110k). Personally, I found this temple more enjoyable than Borobudur. We had free range to explore the grounds without the limitations instilled at Borobudur at a flat rate price. There are actually four temple spots to visit. I highly recommend checking out the smaller ones first as they aren’t far from the main one and are hardly visited but are just as fascinating and beautiful- they are also older than the main site. There are options to cycle or take a large golf cart there but it’s unnecessary as they aren’t that far. However, the walk to the exit is a very long way and ends with a long journey through souvenir shops, drink stands, etc. with crowds of visitors heading the same way. Prambanan temple is totally worth visiting, friendlier staff and better managed compared to Borobudur :) All up we spent about two hours here. If you have extra time, there is also a museum to check out on the way to the exit.
