Bakong Temple, located near Siem Reap, is one of the earliest grand temples of the Khmer Empire. Built in the 9th century, it stands as a peaceful reminder of Cambodia’s rich history. The temple’s pyramid-like structure rises in tiers, surrounded by a quiet moat and shaded by tall trees.
Unlike the crowded temples of Angkor, Bakong feels calm and spaciousperfect for a slow walk among the stones. You’ll see ancient carvings, weathered towers, and statues of lions and elephants guarding the steps. It’s simple, quiet, and deeply meaningful a place where the roots of Khmer architecture first took shape.
