Scenic Spots in China • Zheng's House
In Chinese history, there was a family that lasted for more than 350 years, spanning the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties. Fifteen generations lived together, shared the same wealth and food. At its peak, the family had more than 3,000 people. Zhu Yuanzhang named it "the No. 1 Family in Jiangnan." This is the Zheng family of Pujiang, Zhejiang, also known as the "Zheng Yimen."
The Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall is the core of the building complex. It was first built during the Jianyan period of the Southern Song Dynasty, expanded in the early Yuan Dynasty, and renovated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ancestral hall is divided into five courtyards, namely Shijian Hall, Heyi Hall, Youxu Hall, Worship Hall, and Bedroom. The ancestral hall is lined with stone pillars and has beams that are huge in size but are not painted or lacquered. There are nine 648-year-old dragon cypress trees planted by Song Lian in the courtyard.
