Day 1: Ancient Rome
Start your journey at the iconic Colosseum, the site of ancient gladiatorial contests (pre-book tickets!). Follow this with a visit to the adjacent Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to walk among the ruins of the political and social heart of ancient Rome. In the afternoon, explore the Capitoline Museums on Capitoline Hill for priceless artifacts and excellent views. Conclude your day in the charming, cobbled streets of the Trastevere neighborhood for a classic Roman dinner.
Day 2: The Baroque Center
Begin your morning at the Trevi Fountain to toss a coin, ensuring your return to Rome. Continue to the Pantheon, Rome's best-preserved ancient structure, with its incredible oculus. Next, visit Piazza Navona to admire Bernini's Fountain of Four Rivers. Spend your afternoon at the Spanish Steps and explore the surrounding high-end shopping district. Wrap up the day by exploring a hidden gem like the Galleria Sciarra before enjoying a plate of cacio e pepe.
Day 3: Vatican City & Art
Dedicate your final day to the world's smallest country, Vatican City. Start by exploring the Vatican Museums to see masterpieces, culminating in Michelangelo's breathtaking ceiling in the Sistine Chapel (book tickets well in advance). Afterward, marvel at the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica. In the afternoon, cross the Tiber River to visit the formidable Castel Sant'Angelo, a former mausoleum, fortress, and prison, offering another fantastic panoramic view of the city.
