The Sai Kung Sea Art Festival is a unique cultural event in Hong Kong, taking place from November 13, 2024, to January 12, 2025. This three-year-long art festival is organized by the Tourism Commission, supported by the Hong Kong Geopark, and curated by One Bite Design Studio. With the theme 'Re-Island', the festival aims to showcase the rich natural resources and long-standing history and culture of Sai Kung Sea through artworks and public participation activities. The event locations include Yim Tin Tsai, Kiu Tsui Chau, Kau Sai Chau, Leung Shuen Wan, and Sai Kung Town, allowing visitors to experience the unique charm of island life while appreciating the art.
The Sai Kung Sea Art Festival features 27 artworks, including new and preserved pieces. Some of the highlights include:
'Re-Island Gathering': A large installation art located in Yim Tin Tsai, allowing visitors to experience the island's history and culture through interactive elements.
'Light and Shadow of Kiu Tsui Chau': This piece uses natural and artificial light to create dynamic light and shadow effects, showcasing the natural beauty of Kiu Tsui Chau.
'Sounds of Kau Sai Chau': A sound installation that collects and plays the natural sounds and stories of the residents of Kau Sai Chau, allowing visitors to feel the island's living atmosphere.
Visitors to the Sai Kung Sea Art Festival can first take public transportation to Sai Kung Town Center, then purchase tickets at Sai Kung Pier to take a ferry to the various islands. The festival offers a convenient island-hopping ferry experience, where visitors can purchase tickets online in advance and redeem them at the festival's visitor information station at Sai Kung Pier.
